Balloons are not something you see at high end corporate events that often. They represent a lot of things, but one of them is not necessarily sophistication. In my decade-plus of being an event photographer in NYC I have only seen balloons a handful of times. But what if we looked at them a little differently. Instead of something for kids parties, and people in architectural renderings to tote around, what if balloons were something elegant? Say a scaled up version of the bubbles inside a champagne glass? That is exactly what the team as David Beahm Design has achieved. For a number of years I have photographed a small elegant party for a hedge fund, where the design directive from the client was to include balloons. Beahm et al. used balloons to great effect, capitalizing on how they activate the space on the walls and ceiling, as well as the movement they provide, that adds to a sense of unpredictability, that you want at an event. This unpredictability creates a touch of excitement. Hats off to David Beahm Design for taking a tried and true party element and redefining it in an elegant way.
